Silverstone - Sprint
Thanks to the sprint race in Silverstone, there were points to be won on Saturday, and the competing drivers were eager to add them to their tally. Most decided to start the short, pitstop-less event on medium tires, with only a few opting for softs instead.
Lewis Hamilton, the polesitter, kept the lead throughout the first lap. His teammate, on the other hand, quickly fell down the order, leaving the two Mercedes in podium-scoring positions and Lando Norris and Max Verstappen on their tails. The McLaren driver overtook George Russell for P3 on just the second lap, and Verstappen moved past him soon after. A lot of overtakes were seen in the early moments of the sprint, with cars gaining and losing positions all over the grid.
Just as Charles Leclerc overtook Oscar Piastri for P6, his teammate found himself under pressure from Kimi Antonelli. Lap by lap, the Mercedes moved closer, and on lap eight, it moved past the Ferrari and into the lead. At the same time, Russell attacked Verstappen for P4, and although the Dutchman managed to regain position, it was only a temporary relief. Before the race was over, he was overtaken not only by the Brit but also by Leclerc, falling all the way to P6.
Antonelli became the race winner, adding yet another eight points to his ever-growing tally. His teammate and closest championship rival had to settle for only five.
